Aromatherapy Safety Tips

Posted by Christy Marie on

Aromatherapy is a great way to heal the body and find ease. However there are safety precautions to take when using essential oils(EO). Just because EO are natural doesn't mean they are harmless. EO are extremely concentrated and have a potent effect on the body. Here are some tips to avoid using aromatherapy incorrectly.

  1. NEVER Ingest Essential oils: This isn't a safe practice due to the different chemical compounds in EO.
  2. Diffuse intermittently, No more than 60 minutes.
  3. Keep EO out of reach of infants and pets.
  4. WE MUST DILUTE: Always dilute eo with carrier oils when applying to skin. Applying EO without carrier oils can cause Itching, Chemical burning, Pigmentation changes, Headaches, Nausea, Redness, Rashes and Blistering.
  5. Use EXTREME caution when using during pregnancy: Some EO can cause issues and are dangerous to pregnancy  due to abortifacient properties (Causing miscarriage or preterm labor) Others there is not enough research to risk using them during pregnancy.
